Maharashtra begins land acquisition for Purandar Airport project
A meeting took place at the Pune divisional commissioner’s office to discuss the land acquisition for the Purandar International Airport. Key officials, including Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi, attended the meeting. They set a six-month deadline for acquiring land in the area. The Maharashtra Industries department recently notified land from seven villages for the project. During the meeting, it was decided to appoint four officers to manage the acquisition of 2,753 hectares. A private agency will be hired to measure land across 3,352 survey numbers in Purandar taluka. Dudi emphasized the importance of transparency throughout the process. He pointed out that the goal is to complete the land acquisition within six months. An anonymous official mentioned that after the officers are appointed, tasks will be divided for efficient management. The estimated cost for land acquisition is expected to be over ₹ 3,500 crore. The officials highlighted the need for clear communication with farmers and villagers. They want to assure them that the process will be fair and that land valuation and compensation will be handled properly. On March 10, the state government officially designated the land for industrial use, which includes an additional 70 hectares from the state forest department. This brings the total area required for the Purandar Airport Project to 2,823 hectares.
