Maharashtra Congress chief slams BJP-Sena government's actions
Maharashtra Congress leader Harshvardhan Sapkal has criticized the state government for its handling of a recent controversy involving comedian Kunal Kamra. Sapkal said the BJP-led government is creating a "Taliban-like regime" in Maharashtra. The controversy began when Kamra made comments describing Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde as a "traitor." This led to vandalism at a comedy studio in Mumbai, where Kamra had performed. Sapkal questioned why individuals connected to the ruling party attacked the studio instead of trusting the government's laws. He noted that the studio, which has hosted various cultural events, is owned by a freedom fighter and has been used by artists of different backgrounds. By attacking the studio, Shinde's supporters were also disrespecting the legacy of that freedom fighter, he argued. Sapkal also challenged Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding his comments on violence in Nagpur. He asked if similar action would be taken against Shinde's supporters, who vandalized the Habitat studio. He pointed out that the government seems to target only certain offenders while ignoring others. The Congress leader highlighted the selective enforcement of power, referencing a recent incident where a house belonging to an accused in the Nagpur riots was demolished. He questioned whether the same would happen to another minister known for making provocative statements.
