Maharashtra resolves 7 lakh cases, recovers Rs 42 crore
Mumbai held its first National Lok Adalat on Saturday, resolving over 700,000 cases. The event was led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and resulted in the recovery of more than 420 million rupees related to traffic e-challan cases. Of the cases settled, over 520,000 were pre-litigation, meaning they had not yet gone to court. Nearly 200,000 were post-litigation cases, which were already pending in the legal system. These numbers were reported by the Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority. Justice A. S. Chandurkar, who is the Executive Chairman of MSLSA, supervised the Lok Adalat. The event was organized through various legal services committees across the state, including three High Court Legal Services Committees and 34 District Legal Services Authorities. The Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute resolution method. It helps settle disputes effectively, and parties are refunded their entire court fees if their cases are resolved during the event. The next Lok Adalat is scheduled for May 10.
