Maharashtra sees 2,021 farmer suicides in 2024
In 2024, Maharashtra reported 2,021 farmer suicides in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Amravati divisions, with 952 and 1,069 cases respectively. This marks a significant increase in suicides in these areas compared to previous years. NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar expressed concern over the rising number of suicides in Marathwada and Vidarbha, urging the central government to create supportive policies for farmers. Overall, 2,635 farmer suicides were recorded across Maharashtra in 2024. Pawar also mentioned advancements in agriculture, stating that artificial intelligence will soon be used in sugarcane cultivation to improve quality. He addressed speculation about party member Jayant Patil's potential departure, clarifying that Patil is not upset and remains with the party.
