Maharashtra is planning to build a state cultural centre and museum in the Bandra-Kurla Complex. The site will cover 14,418 square meters. State cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar announced the project in the assembly on Tuesday. The new cultural centre will include an auditorium, art galleries, and a research center. It aims to promote the heritage of Maharashtra and will attract both national and international visitors. The venue will also provide a platform for artists from around the world. The museum is set to showcase various historical artefacts. This includes items found during excavations, ancient weapons, textiles, costumes, sculptures, artwork, inscriptions, and rare paintings from renowned artists. Shelar emphasized the importance of preserving these historical items for future generations. The project will be facilitated through the transfer of land from the revenue department. The design of the museum will be inspired by existing institutions like the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, both of which are already established in Mumbai.
