MahaTech initiative launched to boost Maharashtra's economy
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced the launch of MahaTech. This new initiative aims to combine geospatial and information technology to improve governance and development in Maharashtra. The goal is to help the state achieve a one-trillion-dollar economy. To support this initiative, the Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Center and other departments will be involved. A recent meeting at the Legislature office focused on how geospatial technology can be applied in administration. Chief Conservator of Forests Ravikiran Govekar presented ideas on using this technology effectively. MahaTech is expected to enhance transparency and citizen engagement in governance. The use of space technology is crucial for better planning and asset management within government operations. Initially, the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics will assist as a consultant for setting up MahaTech. CM Fadnavis highlighted that integrating MahaTech with existing technology and resources will speed up development across various departments. The Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Center has experience in using space technology for managing natural resources and urban development. However, it needs improved facilities in Nagpur and Pune. Fadnavis has requested a dedicated space for the MRSAC in Nagpur and a modern sub-center in Mumbai. He also instructed the Planning Department to create a special unit to expand the Pradhan Mantri Gati Shakti scheme in the state. Important officials from various departments attended the meeting to discuss these developments.
