Mahmoud Khalil remains detained while contesting deportation
Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil will remain in an ICE detention facility in Louisiana as he contests his deportation. He was taken into custody on Saturday at Columbia University and is currently fighting the Trump administration's actions. A federal judge has temporarily halted Khalil's deportation and ordered him to have phone access to his lawyers. Khalil, a green card holder and student visa holder, is married to an American citizen who is pregnant. Khalil's lawyers argue his detention violates his First Amendment rights due to his activism. The ACLU and NYCLU have joined his legal team, while the Trump administration has announced plans to revoke visas of individuals deemed as supporters of Hamas.
