Majority of Hungarians desire political change, says Magyar
Hungary's opposition leader Peter Magyar says many people in the country want change. He leads the Freedom and Respect Party, known locally as Tisza, which is ahead in polls as elections approach next year. Prime Minister Viktor Orban has been in power since 2010, and Magyar aims to challenge his leadership. Magyar stated in an interview that the majority of Hungarians desire a "new Hungary." He describes his party as a movement against corruption and propaganda. Key issues in his campaign include the rising cost of living, government corruption, and Hungary's relationship with the European Union. Orban has accused Magyar of being a threat to Hungary's sovereignty. Magyar calls this a tactic used by Orban to distract from real issues in the country. He emphasizes the need for democracy and the rule of law. Though he has not confirmed his stance on LGBT+ rights, Magyar insists he will lead for the benefit of all Hungarians. He is focused on uniting the people against the current government's approach.
