Makeida Thompson feared a trap before her murder
Makeida Thompson was worried about meeting her ex-boyfriend, Terrence Washington, before she was fatally shot. They had recently split up, and she felt uneasy when he invited her to his grandmother's house in Pittsburgh to talk. Thompson had even secured a temporary restraining order, fearing he might hurt her. In the days leading to her death, the couple exchanged many text messages filled with anger and threats. Just hours before Thompson was shot, she asked Washington if it was a setup. Sadly, less than 15 minutes after arriving at his grandmother's home, Thompson was shot multiple times by Washington while their young son was present. Washington has been in jail since his arrest in Seattle over a month after the incident. He claims he shot Thompson in self-defense. Testimonies and evidence presented in court show he allegedly shot her seven times, with a witness saying he remarked, "That’s what you get for messing with me." During the trial, police revealed they found a tactical bag in Washington’s vehicle containing gun magazines and ammunition that matched the bullets found at the crime scene. They also discovered Thompson's gun, which she was licensed to carry, only after moving her body. The emotional trial has moved witnesses, including family members of Thompson, who have struggled to cope with the graphic evidence. Tensions flared in court when a relative confronted Washington after the day's proceedings. The trial is expected to continue soon.
