Man arrested for extortion over obscene video threat
A man named Sudarshan Kambale has been arrested for trying to extort money from his former employer. Kambale, who worked for an educational institute, allegedly threatened to leak an obscene video of the employer's son. He demanded ₹ 25 lakh, about $30,000, in exchange for not sharing the video. The incident was reported on Thursday at the Sinhagad Road police station. The president of the educational institute filed a complaint, leading to Kambale’s arrest on the same day. Police say Kambale had previously worked on the institute's computer and CCTV systems but lost his job during the Covid-19 pandemic. Authorities discovered that Kambale was facing financial difficulties and had debts to repay. It appears he created the blackmail scheme due to his urgent need for money. Senior police inspector Dilip Daigade noted that there seems to be no actual obscene video in Kambale's possession. The police are now looking into whether Kambale acted alone or if he had accomplices. They are also investigating if he had made similar extortion attempts in the past. He has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the investigation is ongoing.
