Man arrested for felony assault after knife attack

Cranston police responded to a stabbing on Aldrich Avenue on Tuesday. Officers found a wounded man and his attacker restrained by two bystanders. The 32-year-old suspect resisted arrest, prompting police to use a Taser to take him into custody. The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. According to police chief Col. Michael J. Winquist, the attacker first tried to enter the victim's home and then was collecting aluminum cans from the property. When the homeowner confronted him, an argument occurred. The homeowner was then stabbed four times with a butcher knife. Two workers nearby witnessed the incident and intervened, disarming the suspect. Winquist praised their actions, stating they likely saved the victim's life. The attacker suffered a laceration and now faces multiple felony charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. Police advise against bystanders intervening in dangerous situations, but acknowledge the bravery of the two workers.
