Man arrested in Greater Noida for ₹2 crore ransom
A man, Akash Kumar Rana, has been arrested for allegedly demanding a ₹2 crore ransom from a private hospital owner in Noida. The police arrested him after a shootout in Greater Noida on Sunday. Officers say he has a history of criminal activities in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi. Rana is accused of attacking Gaurav Giri, the owner of Annapurna Private Hostel, on February 22. He and his accomplices allegedly fired on Giri and then demanded money through an online app. One of his accomplices has already been arrested, while Rana had been on the run until this weekend. Police arrested Rana near the Gurjarpur railway underpass while conducting a routine vehicle inspection. When officers signaled for him to stop, he tried to flee on an unregistered motorcycle. During the police pursuit, he fired at the officers and was injured in the exchange of gunfire. Rana was taken to a government hospital and is in stable condition. Police recovered a country-made pistol and a stolen motorcycle from him. A case has been filed against him for attempted murder, extortion, and violations of arms laws. The investigation is ongoing to explore any further criminal connections.
