Man arrested in NJ school with $500K in bonds
A man was arrested after spending the night in Teaneck High School, New Jersey, and was found with $500,000 in savings bonds. The incident occurred when school staff reported belongings had been moved around, leading to concerns of a burglary. The man entered the school through an unlocked door on March 12. During a Board of Education meeting happening inside, he roamed the building for several hours. Two burglar alarms went off during the night, but police checked the exterior and found everything secure. Police later identified the man as Ryon Reid, a 39-year-old from Jamaica. They arrested him on March 13 after spotting him near the municipal building, wearing the same clothes as in the surveillance video. During the arrest, police discovered several U.S. Savings Bonds in Reid's possession, linked to a deceased couple from Brooklyn, New York. He has since been charged with burglary, theft, and receiving stolen property. Authorities are investigating how he obtained the bonds and the couple's death certificates. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Teaneck Police Department.
