Man charged for Oakley mother's DUI crash death

A man from San Jose has been charged with killing a young mother in a drunk driving crash. The victim, 21-year-old Kassie Watkins, left behind two young daughters. The incident occurred early on February 22 on Interstate 680 in Fremont. Court records show that the man, Sayed Maqsoodi, is facing charges of vehicular manslaughter. The crash happened around 2:21 a.m. His Honda collided with Watkins' Toyota. Police reported that Maqsoodi showed clear signs of being drunk. He had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, and an unsteady walk. Despite these signs, he refused to take a sobriety test. He was arrested at the scene. On March 7, prosecutors charged him with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Maqsoodi has posted bail of $60,000 and is now out of jail. An online fundraiser for Kassie Watkins described her as a loving and beautiful person. It stated she was a fighter and would be deeply missed by her family and friends.
