A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Cairns, Australia, for allegedly luring a 13-year-old girl to a hotel room and sexually assaulting her. The man, identified as James Charles Brown, was taken into custody on the street after police suspected he was trying to discard his mobile phone. The incident came to light when a family member of the girl notified the police about the meeting. Officers from the tactical crime squad quickly began an investigation. Later that evening, they located Brown and arrested him on Cairns Esplanade. Authorities allege that Brown provided cannabis to the girl before the assault. He faces multiple charges, including three counts of rape and supplying dangerous drugs. He is also charged with using the internet to procure a child under 16 and breaching bail conditions. Brown appeared in Cairns Magistrates Court where he was remanded in custody after police opposed his bail. Police believe that Brown and the girl may have met prior to the incident. Detective Senior Sergeant Mick Gooiker described the alleged crime as "abhorrent" and praised the victim for showing courage by coming forward. Brown is scheduled to return to court on June 10.
