Man confronts employee over racist Spanish remark in Houston
A man in Houston has gone viral after confronting a Family Dollar employee over a racist comment she made in Spanish. Deon "Chico" Young was waiting to check out when he heard the employee make a derogatory remark about Black people stealing shoes. Young, who speaks English, Spanish, and French, understood what was said. When it was his turn to pay, Young spoke to the employee. He told her she should be careful with her words because she doesn't know who might understand her. He recorded the exchange and later shared it on TikTok, where it gained over 775,000 views. In the video, he stressed the importance of being respectful, saying, "Watch what you're saying because you never know who you offend." Young emphasized that he did not want the employee to lose her job but wanted to raise awareness about the impact of her words. After the incident, he expressed his frustration in another video, stating, "I hate it when these undercover racists talk in Spanish about us." Family Dollar later contacted Young, apologizing for the situation and mentioning that the employee's job would be terminated. The parent company, Dollar Tree, did not comment on the incident at this time.
