Man dies after being struck by runaway car in Letterkenny
A man from Co Donegal, Anthony Gallagher, who was killed by a runaway car, will be buried on Thursday. His brother, Martin, is currently fighting for his life in the hospital after the accident. Both men, in their 60s, were struck while walking home from a night out in Letterkenny on St Patrick's Day. The incident happened just before 3 a.m. on Lower Main Street, close to their home. Anthony, who worked as a 'lollipop man' nearby, died in the hospital from his injuries a few hours later. Martin remains in critical condition at Galway University Hospital with serious injuries. A teenager, believed to be driving a taxi that hit the brothers, was arrested shortly after the incident. He has been released without charges, and investigations are ongoing. A Garda spokesperson confirmed that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Anthony Gallagher's remains will be available for viewing at the Eternal Light Chapel of Rest in Letterkenny on Wednesday evening. His funeral will be held at St. Eunan’s Cathedral on Thursday morning, followed by burial at Conwal Cemetery. Anthony is remembered by his brother Martin, as well as his extended family and many friends. A vigil was held in Letterkenny to pray for the brothers, attended by about 200 people. Community members expressed their respect for the men, who were private but well-regarded in the town. A large turnout is expected at Anthony's funeral.
