Man dies after cocaine arrest at Manchester Airport

A 27-year-old man named Karl Joyce died at Manchester Airport after being arrested last month. He collapsed in Terminal 2 on February 19 while preparing to board a flight to Qatar. Joyce was detained by Border Force officers after allegedly swallowing cocaine found in his underwear. His family, from Fleetwood in Lancashire, described him as a loving father of two daughters. They said his death has created a significant loss for them. The family expressed their devastation and requested privacy during this difficult time. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the circumstances surrounding Joyce's death. They confirmed on March 20 that inquiries are ongoing. Joyce was stopped while going through airport security for displaying unusual behavior. After his arrest, he was moved to a holding area. There, he became unwell, and paramedics were called. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at 1:53 PM. The IOPC began their investigation after being notified of his death shortly after it occurred.
