Man drove drunk for miles on I-81, hit deputy
A man was arrested for driving drunk the wrong way on Interstate 81 in New York. The incident happened early Sunday morning. Deputies reported that the driver, 32-year-old Cody Freeman from Cicero, was seen driving south in the northbound lanes near the Taft Road bridge in Clay around 12:20 a.m. When officers tried to stop Freeman, he crashed into a deputy's vehicle but continued driving. Deputies closed the northbound lanes and pursued him for over four miles. Freeman finally stopped near the Hiawatha Boulevard exit in Syracuse and was taken into custody. Freeman now faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. He is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, consuming alcohol in a vehicle, not wearing a seat belt, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. The northbound lanes of I-81 were reopened about 40 minutes after the pursuit began.
