Man fatally shot by police outside Philadelphia hospital
A man died after a shootout with police outside a hospital in Philadelphia on Thursday. The incident occurred around 12:24 p.m. when police stopped him as he ran through traffic. He was experiencing a mental health crisis. According to Philadelphia Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel, the man agreed to go to Friends Hospital, a psychiatric facility. Police did not handcuff him and placed him in the backseat of a patrol car. They arrived at the hospital around 12:50 p.m. However, when the police let him out of the car, the man became violent. He attacked the officers, and they used a Taser on him. During the struggle, the man managed to grab one officer's gun and fired, hitting the edge of the officer's bulletproof vest. In response, one of the officers shot the man multiple times. All three were taken to Temple University Hospital, where the man was pronounced dead. The officers were treated for their injuries and released. The identity of the man has not been made public.
