Man in Kollam district dies by suicide after attempt
A tragic incident occurred in Ayoor, Kollam district, where a man took his own life after trying to kill his mother, who had expressed a desire to die due to financial struggles. The deceased man, Renjith, was 35 years old and lived with his mother, Sujatha, who is 54. On Friday night, the pair decided to end their lives by overdosing on sleeping pills. After taking the pills, they both lost consciousness. When Sujatha began to fear she might not die from the pills, she urged her son to strangle her. Renjith did so using a towel, but she remained unconscious from the pills, not dead. Believing Sujatha was dead, Renjith then hanged himself in his bedroom. Renjith worked at a shop nearby and did not show up for work the next day. Concerned, his employer tried to reach him by phone but got no reply. The shop owner then went to Renjith's home, finding it locked. He contacted the neighbors, and soon the police were called. Upon breaking down the door, they discovered Renjith's body and Sujatha lying unconscious. The police have not informed Sujatha about her son's death. Officers reported that both had planned to end their lives due to ongoing issues. Sujatha's husband had also died by suicide a few years prior. The Chadayamangalam police have opened a case regarding the unnatural deaths. Sujatha is currently in stable condition at a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
