Man in Mumbai recovers Rs 2.53 lakh from scam

A man from Virar lost Rs 2.53 lakh in an online scam but has now recovered his money. The incident happened between November 2024 and January 2025. The man saw a link promising easy work from home and got involved in a product review scheme. He initially earned some money but was soon asked to invest more. After investing Rs 10,000, he lost a total of Rs 2.53 lakh. The situation caused him to feel depressed, according to Inspector Rahul Sonawane from the Vile Parle police station. The man realized he had been scammed when he was told he needed to pay taxes to withdraw his money. Fortunately, police were able to help. They froze the accounts that had received his money and managed to retrieve all of it. The man expressed his gratitude to the police for their assistance. Inspector Sonawane reminded the public to be cautious of misleading ads, especially those using deep fake images of famous people on social media.
