A 48-year-old man, Anthony Wignall, has pleaded guilty to possessing a knife. He was arrested on March 14 after police noticed him acting suspiciously on Dunbarton Street in Walton. Police were patrolling the area due to a Section 60 order, allowing them to search for weapons following a recent serious assault. When officers approached him, Wignall tried to escape. He threw a lock knife across the street, but police recovered it before anyone else could find it. Wignall was charged with possession of a bladed article and appeared in Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty. He is set to be sentenced on April 23. Inspector Chris Taylor emphasized the seriousness of knife crime and the need for measures to ensure community safety. The recent order was put in place to give officers more powers to search for weapons and prevent further crime in the area. Police continue to encourage the public to report any information about weapons or knife crime. People can contact Merseyside Police directly or reach out to Crimestoppers anonymously. The EVOLVE Everton-Vauxhall program aims to reduce serious crime and build safer communities in Merseyside.
