Man pleads guilty to stealing from Bowdoin crime scene
A man from Lisbon has admitted to stealing items from a home involved in a tragic shooting. Arden Shaw, in his 50s, pleaded guilty to one count of theft of government property in U.S. District Court in Portland on Tuesday. He was charged along with two others for taking items belonging to the U.S. Border Patrol from the Eger family home in Bowdoin. The Eger family home was the site of a quadruple homicide in April 2023, where Patti and Robert Eger were killed, along with their friends Cynthia and David Eaton. Their son, Joseph Eaton, has already pleaded guilty to the murders and is serving a life sentence. After the shooting, the Egers' son, who is a Border Patrol agent, discovered that several items were missing from the house in June 2023, including valuables and Border Patrol gear. Police linked the stolen property to the homes of Michael Hall and Jeanne Doughty, who are also facing state charges connected to a broader identity theft scheme. Shaw, Hall, and Doughty were charged in 2024 with taking the Border Patrol items. All three have now pleaded guilty, and they will be sentenced at a later date.
