Man pleads not guilty in Sacramento DUI crash case
A man accused of causing a deadly crash in Sacramento County has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges. The crash, which took place in 2023, resulted in the deaths of five people. Authorities suspect that the man, Cameron Garcia, was driving under the influence. Garcia was driving along Highway 160 when he crashed into a tree. He was the only survivor in the vehicle, which had five passengers aged 16 to 29. The group was on a camping trip at the time of the accident. After the crash, Garcia reportedly carjacked a passing vehicle and then led police on a chase. He was eventually caught in Elk Grove. He faces serious charges, including five counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, one count of carjacking, and one count of felony reckless evasion. Garcia has a history of burglary convictions from 2013 and 2017. Garcia, who is now 30 years old, is currently held without bail. A trial date has been scheduled for May 5.
