Man rescued after boat capsizes off Rottnest Island
Emergency services rescued a man from the water near Rottnest Island, Western Australia, after his boat flipped over on March 21. Video from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) shows the man waving for help from his overturned vessel. The man found himself stranded and alone in the dark while clinging to the boat. He had been in the water for hours after his boat began to take on water. Fortunately, he was equipped with an emergency beacon, known as an EPIRB, which helped rescuers locate him quickly. Fremantle Sea Rescue received an emergency call just before 6 PM, reporting the distress signal from his boat. Around 11 PM, a police helicopter spotted him sitting on the upturned hull. Rescue efforts were launched immediately. The rescue vessel, named Resolute, was the first to reach him. Crew members rescued the man from the water and assessed his condition. He was then taken back to shore in Fremantle, where he was reunited with his family.
