Man sentenced for knife attack on partner, toddler present
A man violently attacked his girlfriend with a knife while she was holding their three-year-old daughter. The incident occurred after Neale White became furious when his partner poured some of his drink down the sink, threatening her with the knife and saying, "You're going to die." White, who is a father of three, escalated his aggression by barricading his partner and their child in a bedroom. He then cut himself and smeared his blood on both of them. During this ordeal, he punched his partner over 20 times and threatened to burn their house down with them inside. The victim managed to call emergency services while pleading for White to stop. When the police arrived, White was seen waving the knife and making threats. He then attempted to stab a police dog before throwing a glass towards officers. He eventually surrendered and was arrested. White has a history of violence, including previous court orders for battery. He expressed remorse for his actions, explaining that he struggles with alcohol addiction and has faced personal losses that affected his mental health. In court, he pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including making threats to kill. He was sentenced to four years in prison and given a ten-year restraining order. The judge described the attack as terrifying and recognized the long-lasting impact on the victim and their children.
