Man sentenced for murdering girl over marriage proposal

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a 17-year-old girl in Tumakuru district. The case stems from an incident in April 2021, when the victim, Kavya, rejected the man's marriage proposal. Eeranna, who worked as a cattle grazer, had been stalking Kavya. She was the oldest of three daughters in her family. Despite his persistent advances, she repeatedly refused his proposal. On the day of the incident, Kavya was walking alone to catch a bus for school. Eeranna followed her on his motorcycle and confronted her. He attempted to tie a traditional wedding necklace around her neck, but when she slapped him, he became angry and attacked her. Kavya's friends alerted nearby people, who helped rush her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead upon arrival. Following the incident, police arrested Eeranna and charged him with murder.
