Man sentenced to 20 years for POCSO case
A 22-year-old man named Veeranipalli Chiranjeevi, also known as Chiru, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the Anantapur District Special Sessions court. He was found guilty in a case related to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court also ordered Chiru to pay a fine of ₹1,000 and awarded the victim ₹3 lakh as compensation. The incident occurred in March 2019, when Chiru misled a minor girl, saying he would take her home, but then behaved inappropriately. Following the complaint from the girl's mother, Kadiri police registered a case against Chiru. He was arrested on the same day. The case was later moved to the Special POCSO Court in Anantapur, where the court examined 14 witnesses before reaching a verdict.
