Man sentenced to 20 years for raping 14-year-old

A 39-year-old man received a 20-year prison sentence for raping a 14-year-old girl in Kendrapada, India. The sentence was handed down on Saturday by Additional District Judge Pragyan Paramita Roul. The crime took place on April 24, 2022, when the girl was alone at home. The court also ordered the man to pay a fine of Rs 50,000. If he does not pay, he could face an additional year in prison. The Odisha State Legal Services Authority will provide the girl with Rs 6 lakh in compensation. The case came to light when the girl's mother reported the incident to the police the day after it occurred. Evidence included testimonies from 16 witnesses, along with medical reports. The man was arrested and charged under several sections of Indian law.
