A Texas judge has sentenced Bakari Abiona Moncrief to life in prison for the murder of Sarmistha Sen. This decision comes more than four years after Sen, 43, was found dead while jogging in Plano. Moncrief pleaded guilty to the capital murder charge on December 2, 2024. Additionally, he received a 40-year sentence for a separate burglary charge. According to the Plano Police Department, Moncrief will not be eligible for parole for at least 32 years. The investigation began on August 1, 2020, when police discovered Sen's body in a creek near Chisholm Trail Park. Moncrief, who was 29 at the time, was arrested the same day for burglary. Later, authorities connected him to Sen's murder using DNA evidence, which included blood found on his clothing. Sen was remembered as a caring person and worked as a clinical research manager at UT Southwestern, focusing on cancer research. After her death, her husband, Arindam Roy, helped create a $500,000 endowment in her honor to ensure her memory lives on. Sen is survived by Roy and their two sons, Neil and Ryan.
