Man sentenced to life for rape in Nandyal
A man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a woman almost five years ago. The incident took place in Sanjamala, in the Nandyal district. The victim was at a temple with her brother when he disappeared. She began looking for him, and that's when Uppu Naga Harikrishna, a local man, offered to help. He took her on his motorcycle to a remote area near the GNSS canal, where he assaulted and raped her. The trial was overseen by Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana. On Tuesday, Special Sessions Judge V. Lakshmirajyam delivered the verdict, finding Harikrishna guilty and sentencing him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.
