A 21-year-old man named Duppala Anand has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl in Telangana's Mahbubnagar district. The crime, which led to the girl becoming pregnant, occurred on December 21, 2020. Anand was also fined Rs 50,000 by the POCSO court, and the court has granted the victim a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. The case was investigated by the Koyalkonda police following a complaint made by the victim's mother. Charges were filed against Anand under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The court delivered its verdict on March 18. In a separate case from the Atmakur (S) area, a 44-year-old man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for repeatedly raping a 20-year-old relative. He was also fined Rs 30,000 and the court awarded the victim Rs 5 lakh in compensation. The victim had suffered multiple assaults over five months while her mother was at work. The convict threatened to harm her and her family. When she became pregnant, he forced her to take pills to induce a miscarriage, which caused serious health issues. She delivered a stillborn baby while being taken to the hospital. The police later arrested the man after an investigation.
