Man shot by police while fleeing custody in Mysuru
A man was shot in the leg on Friday night while trying to escape police custody. The man, named Adarsh, was one of three individuals arrested for a robbery that took place on January 20 near Mysuru. In the robbery, a group of masked men attacked a car belonging to a businessman from Kerala. They assaulted the people inside and stole the vehicle. Later, the car was found abandoned about ten kilometers from the robbery site, but the money inside was missing. Police Superintendent N. Vishnuvardhan organized special teams to capture the suspects. On March 21, Adarsh and two other men were taken into custody in Kerala. On Friday night, while police were showing Adarsh the crime scene, he asked to step away to relieve himself. Once he was allowed, Adarsh picked up a broken beer bottle and attacked two police officers who were present. He intended to escape and seriously injured the officers. In response, one officer fired a warning shot into the air, while another shot Adarsh in the leg to stop him. Both Adarsh and the injured officers were taken to K.R. Hospital for treatment. Police reported that Adarsh has a history of multiple cases against him, and a new case has been opened at the Jayapura police station.
