Man sues US safari company after wife killed in hippo attack in Zambia
Craig Manders is suing African Portfolio, a U.S. safari tour company, after his wife, Lisa, was killed by a hippo during a guided walk in Zambia last June. The lawsuit claims the company failed to ensure their safety and did not properly supervise the tour guides. The suit, filed on February 5 in Connecticut, alleges that tour guides, including one armed with a rifle, did not assist during the attack. Lisa Manders, 70, suffered fatal injuries. African Portfolio denies the allegations, stating it only arranged the couple's lodging and that safety measures were in place. The lawsuit seeks damages for negligence and emotional distress. It claims the company exposed the Manderses to unnecessary danger and failed to provide safe conditions during the safari. The company plans to request dismissal or arbitration based on the agreement signed by the Manderses.
