Man threatens explosion, surrenders to Barberton police

A man in Barberton, Ohio, is now in custody after a tense standoff with police. The 49-year-old cut a gas line inside his home and threatened to cause an explosion, prompting nearby residents to evacuate. Police arrived at the scene on 15th Street Northwest after reports of a domestic dispute. Officers noticed a strong smell of gas in the area. The man claimed he had cut the gas line. The police acted quickly, evacuating the surrounding homes. A gas worker was able to safely turn off the gas supply. Despite this, the man continued to make threats, including statements about harming himself. SWAT was called to help resolve the situation. After talking with a negotiator for about two hours, the man decided to surrender peacefully. He was then taken to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and residents were allowed to return home shortly before 8 p.m.
