Manga "DeadAss" explores humor and emotion through illness

Viz Media has launched a new program called Viz Originals One-Shots. This program highlights new manga artists in the English language. The stories are one-time reads and are available for free on Viz.com and the Viz app. One of the latest one-shots is titled DeadAss. It tells the story of a man named James who struggles with haunting-induced chronic hemorrhoids. The comic, created by artist hakei, is about 50 pages long and can be read in about 10 minutes. DeadAss starts with a surprising diagnosis from James' doctor. The plot combines humor and emotional moments. Former Shonen Jump editor Hisashi Sasaki praised hakei for their unique ability to blend comedy and deep feelings in their characters. Though the premise may sound absurd, the story takes readers through a range of emotions. It's both a funny story about a ghost and a serious exploration of guilt. DeadAss is now available for free on Viz.com and the Viz app.
