Mangaluru court denies bail in ₹30 lakh cheating case
A court in Mangaluru has denied bail to K.M. Abdul Nazir, who is accused of cheating a businessman in Vitla. Nazir is one of eight people arrested for posing as officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED). They tricked M. Sulaiman, a beedi entrepreneur, into handing over ₹30 lakh in cash on January 3. The court's decision was based on the seriousness of the crime. The judge, K.P. Preethi, highlighted that Nazir had a long-term connection with Sulaiman's household, having worked there for 16 years until three years ago. This prior knowledge helped Nazir and the others plan the crime. During the proceedings, the public prosecutor pointed out that Nazir had even provided a sketch of Sulaiman's house to one of the other accused. The judge noted that four more suspects are still at large. This raised concerns about Nazir potentially fleeing if granted bail. The investigation is ongoing, and the police have not yet completed their recovery efforts related to the case.
