The Palakkad Division of Southern Railway is optimistic about completing the development work at Mangaluru Junction Railway Station by April 2025. The work is part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which has a budget of approximately ₹19.32 crore. Currently, over 80% of the physical work is finished. Mangaluru Junction was selected as one of four stations in the Dakshina Kannada region for this project. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched the scheme nationwide on August 6, 2023. The station is seeing significant improvements, including a newly designed entrance porch and expanded parking areas. The parking space for vehicles is almost finished, with about 89% of the work completed. The entrance porch has also made good progress, enhancing the station’s aesthetic appeal. Additionally, the approach roads to the station are being widened to improve traffic flow, especially from the nearby highway. Features such as a waiting hall and amenities for disabled passengers are also in progress. Mangaluru Junction, which opened in 1979, plays a key role in connecting various regions, handling around 6,700 passengers daily. The completion date for all these improvements is tentatively set for March 31, 2025.
