Manhattan mom seeks federal help after protest disruption
A mother from Manhattan was confronted by a trans rights protester during an education meeting this week. The incident occurred at a Community Education Council meeting in District 2. The protester blocked the exit while shouting at the mother, Maud Maron, who holds conservative views on issues related to transgender athletes. Maron described the situation as frightening, saying the protester prevented her from leaving and followed her outside. The New York Police Department had to escort her for her safety. Maron has been outspoken against transgender women participating in women's sports. She believes the protests at these meetings have become increasingly chaotic. At the meeting, activists interrupted with chants and songs while celebrating a year of protests against the council. Their actions were sparked by a resolution to review the Department of Education's policy that allows transgender girls to compete in female sports. This policy has been a topic of heated discussion and disagreement. Jesse Mojica, from the Department of Education, urged attendees not to disrupt speakers. However, parents have expressed concerns about safety during these meetings, stating that the Department has not done enough to protect them. Maron has reached out to city officials and the U.S. Secretary of Education for help. She requested that the council be allowed to hold virtual meetings to enhance safety. Maron also emphasized the need for a committee to discuss the impacts of the Department's gender guidelines on students and athletes. She believes that these guidelines undermine the rights of female students under federal law. The Department of Education and the mayor's office have not yet responded to inquiries about the situation.
