Manila Water invests P26.3 billion for improved services
Manila Water announced a capital expenditure of P26.3 billion for 2024. This investment aims to improve water and wastewater services for over 9 million customers in the Philippines. The company focuses on four main areas: water security, service accessibility, service continuity, and environmental protection. Most of the investment, around 90% or P23.6 billion, will be used for projects in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal. These projects are important to meet government requirements and improve services. A significant part of the budget, P7.6 billion, is directed towards developing a new water treatment plant that will handle 200 million liters of water per day. Additionally, P5.6 billion is set aside for the Wawa-Calawis Phase 2 project, which will increase water supply for areas like Antipolo and parts of Metro Manila. Manila Water is also upgrading the East Avenue Sewage Treatment Plant with new technology, and spending P1.5 billion on a sewer network project that will help 700,000 customers in Mandaluyong, San Juan, and Quezon City by 2037. Manila Water has allocated P2.7 billion for projects outside the East Zone. This includes investments in Laguna, Pampanga, and Boracay to improve water treatment facilities. The company continues to prioritize reliable services, aiming for 24/7 water supply despite challenges like climate change and increased demand during dry seasons.
