Manitoba RCMP to launch body camera program in Steinbach on November 22

cbc.ca November 21, 2024, 12:03 AM UTC

Manitoba RCMP will begin using body cameras for the first time on November 22, 2024, in Steinbach, a city near Winnipeg. The decision was made due to the city's reliable internet and proximity to headquarters for support. Over the next five months, more than 490 officers in 44 detachments, including those serving First Nations communities, will receive body cameras. Other locations set to receive the cameras include Portage la Prairie and East Saint Paul. The cameras will store footage locally until officers return to headquarters for uploading. The program is part of a national initiative funded by the federal government, which has committed nearly $240 million over six years.
