Maplewood plans bike lanes on Parker Avenue
Maplewood Township will hold its third virtual community meeting on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will discuss plans for bicycle lanes on Parker Avenue, extending from Maplewood Avenue to Irvington Avenue. This meeting will specifically cover the section between Boyden Avenue and Irvington Avenue. Residents can join the discussion via Zoom or by phone. The proposed bike lanes could remove on-street parking on both sides of Parker Avenue in certain areas. This change might affect local residents significantly. The township will present the bike lane concept and invite community feedback. Two earlier meetings held on March 3 and March 10 focused on different parts of Parker Avenue. The bike lane project is part of Maplewood’s “Complete Streets” approach. This strategy aims to make the streets safer and more accessible for everyone, whether they walk, bike, or drive. Over the past year, Maplewood has worked to develop a network of bike lanes connecting key areas like parks, schools, and shopping districts. Parker Avenue is seen as a key route for safe biking across the town.
