Marcos asked to review eviction notice for Masungi Georeserve
The Masungi Georeserve Foundation is asking President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. to review a recent eviction notice. The notice was issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and requires Blue Star, the company behind the Masungi Georeserve project, to leave the property within 15 days. In a statement, the foundation called for the government to pause the eviction order. They want a fair review and open discussions with all involved parties to find a sustainable solution. Earlier this month, the DENR canceled a 2002 agreement with Blue Star. The department cited legal issues and the company's failure to fulfill contract terms. Blue Star Construction and Development Corporation is exploring legal options after receiving the eviction notice. They stated that the canceled agreement had been vital to the creation of the Masungi Georeserve. The DENR is demanding that Blue Star vacate the 300-hectare area used for the conservation project. The DENR listed several reasons for canceling the agreement. These include the lack of necessary government documents and Blue Star's failure to deliver promised housing projects on time. Blue Star is asking all stakeholders to engage responsibly and focus on verified facts. The Masungi Georeserve is an award-winning conservation area in Rizal. It has received international recognition for its environmental efforts. The Masungi Foundation argues that the eviction notice threatens years of conservation work and the livelihoods of the local rangers. The foundation emphasizes that Masungi plays a crucial role in protecting the environment, including areas that help shield communities from natural disasters. They believe that a fair resolution can benefit all Filipinos and support ongoing conservation efforts.
