Marcos distances himself from impeachment complaint against Vice-President Duterte
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has distanced himself from an impeachment complaint against Vice-President Sara Duterte, filed on December 2. His office stated it has "nothing to do" with the complaint, which alleges corruption and other crimes. The House of Representatives has two weeks to act on the complaint, but lawmakers may be reluctant to pursue it ahead of the May midterm elections. Previous impeachment efforts have been quickly dismissed, and the current political climate suggests little support for the case. Marcos' allies hold a majority in the House, but they may lack the necessary votes in the Senate for the impeachment to proceed. No vice-president has been impeached in the Philippines, although past complaints have been made against other officials.
