Maria Bakalova's thriller "Electra" releases May 2
A new thriller film called "Electra," featuring actress Maria Bakalova, will be released in North America on May 2 by Level 33 Entertainment. Bakalova is known for her roles in "The Apprentice" and "Bodies Bodies Bodies." This film is the directorial debut of Hala Matar, who is the first Bahraini woman to create a feature film. "Electra" is compared to popular movies like "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and "Saltburn." The story follows two journalists who visit an Italian villa for an interview with a famous musician and his partner. However, things take a dark turn as the trip leads to deceit and betrayal. Matar, who has worked with major fashion brands, aims to explore themes of personal struggle and the importance of facing one's issues in her film. The cast includes Abigail Cowen and Jack Farthing, among others. Level 33's president, Andreas Olavarria, called the movie a “fun, fresh cinematic experience.” The film was produced by multiple parties, including Yale Productions and Ring Film. The deal for the distribution was handled by agent Nicholas Donnermeyer.
