Marvel releases Pride Special featuring Avengers and X-Men
Marvel Comics is launching a new special comic to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month. The anthology, titled Marvel United: A Pride Special #1, will feature at least five stories with characters from The Avengers and X-Men. The issue goes on sale on June 4th, 2025, and is available for pre-order at comic book shops. The cover art for the special, created by Lucas Werneck, will have four variant covers by different artists later this year. Each story in the anthology showcases notable heroes taking a stand against bigotry and hate. One story follows Captain America of the Railways, Aaron Fischer, battling the villain Hate-Monger, written by Al Ewing. Another story features Captain America and his friend Arnie Roth fighting Hydra during World War II, penned by Anthony Oliveira. A third story focuses on the marriage of Mystique and Destiny, exploring their journey as parents with their son, Nightcrawler. Wyatt Kennedy writes this tale, with art by Bayleigh Underwood. Lastly, Black Cat gets caught in a conflict between hero Sera and the demon D’Spayre in a story by Zoe Tunnell. Marvel promises to reveal more stories, interviews, and essays regarding the importance of Pride in the comic community. Previous Pride specials have been well received and emphasize that discrimination has no place in superhero stories.
