Former Madras High Court Justice K. Chandru has called for Marxists and Ambedkarites to unite in defending the Indian Constitution. He made these remarks during the 38th A.K. Gopalan Memorial Lecture on Saturday. Justice Chandru emphasized that despite past disagreements, it is now essential for both groups to work together. He pointed out that issues like federalism and secularism are areas where they can align. The retired justice also highlighted the importance of educating young people about the Constitution. He suggested that all states should encourage school children to read the Constitution, similar to a practice in Kerala. He praised public figures like Rahul Gandhi, who keeps a copy of the Constitution, and urged people to respect and follow its principles. Justice Chandru served in the Madras High Court for nearly two decades and handled over 96,000 cases. His contributions to law are depicted in the Tamil film "Jai Bhim."
