Mary Eleanor Macsherry, a former nurse and beloved family figure, passed away on March 8 at the age of 92. She died from heart failure while being taken to Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Macsherry lived in the Tuxedo Park area of North Baltimore. Born in Baltimore, she was raised in both Tuscany-Canterbury and Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Edward Snowden Warfield, an agricultural salesman, and Betty Byrd Chaney, a homemaker. Mary graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and worked in the emergency room at Union Memorial Hospital. She also served as a public health nurse for the Baltimore City Health Department. Mary met her husband, Clinton Kilty Macsherry Jr., through mutual friends and they married in 1958. The couple raised eight children together. Her son, Clinton Macsherry, remembered her for her home cooking, love of family meals, and her environmentally friendly habits. She was an early recycler and often bought food from a cooperative to help provide for her large family. Mary was devoted to her faith, converting to Roman Catholicism after her marriage. She was particularly passionate about the teachings of St. Francis of Assisi. Known for her warmth, she often welcomed friends and family into her home. A funeral Mass was conducted by her son, Fr. Hugh Macsherry, on March 13 at the Cathedral of Mary of Our Queen, where she had been a longtime parishioner. Mary is survived by four sons, three daughters, 14 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Geoffrey Macsherry, who died in 2016.
