Mary Jane Veloso can choose detention site upon return to Philippines

Mary Jane Veloso, a Filipino woman on death row in Indonesia, will be allowed to choose her detention site upon her return to the Philippines. The Bureau of Corrections confirmed she can select from facilities in Metro Manila, Palawan, or Davao. Veloso will first stay at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City for a month for medical assessment. Afterward, she will undergo a reintegration program to acquire skills for her future. Her transfer is expected in December, following an agreement between the Philippines and Indonesia. Veloso was sentenced to death in 2010 for drug trafficking but had her sentence commuted after lengthy negotiations.
